    Through two volumes, Professor Burt traces events leading to old Quebec's collapse: the influx of the Loyalists; the troubled and often brilliant administrations of a succession of British governors; and finally the extinction, by constitutional act, of the old province of Quebec.   This book was later adapted into the Oscar Winning film of the same name. Michael Ondaatje is, in my opinion, the leader of the powerful movement of immigrant Canadian literature. His first book, The Dainty Monsters, was released in ; 30 years later other New Canadian voices started to emerge, most notably M.G. Vassanji and Rohinton Mistry.

Sara Donati's novels take place in Quebec, especially Dawn on a Distant Shore which is set in Montreal for about a third of the book or maybe less. Picture Maker and Dream Weaver by Penina Keen Spinka takes place in Quebec (for the most part), but it is speculative fiction as it tells the story of a Mohawk women who actually goes to live in.

As another review notes, there are shades of Marxism; unlike this other reviewer I understand that Marx was an originary figure in socio-economic history and so ANY book written with an economic basis will show the influence of the author of Das Kapital, and to me 4/5(7).

Pierre Esprit Radisson ( - ) was an amazing man who lived in New France (Quebec City) when the city was just being was a Coureur des Bois (Fur Trader & Voyageur) who was captured by Indians, and went on to become a renowned explorer and mapper of huge portions of North American.
